Pflaumen (Prunus domestica)Detection of Plum Pox Virus / Sharka Virus / PPV

Plum pox virus (PPV) responsible of Sharka disease is a potyvirus. Main host plants are stone fruits like apricot trees, plum trees, peach trees and sometimes almond trees. PPV can cause significant loss of yield and marketability of those stone fruits. This quarantine virus infects also the major part of ornamental prunus like cherry plum (myrobalan plum), blackthorn, damson plum, Nankin cherry…

PPV is found around the world especially in Europe and Mediterranean regions.

Sharka virus is transmitted through aphids or grafting. Symptoms can appear on leaves, fruits or flowers: spots, stripes or chlorotic rings, vein clearing and leaf deformations in peach trees.
